Three new light rail stations recently opened in northern Seattle at Green Lake, North Gate and Shoreline, continuing to create astounding accessibility from the light rail for Martin Selig Real Estate (MSRE) tenants.
With 14 buildings across three neighborhoods that have access to light rail stations – Belltown from the Westlake stop, Financial District (Union Street Stations) from the University Street station and Pioneer Square – commuting to MSRE buildings has never been easier.
Riding the light rail is a great way to contribute to the energy conservation effort in Seattle, in part by saving on gas emissions and reducing traffic congestion. In 2019, the Sound Transit launched a ten-year agreement with Puget Sound Energy that allows Link light rail trains to run on 100% clean energy, making the light rail a sustainable travel option that offers both “minimal expense and maximum positive impact on our economy.”
As MSRE continues pushing for energy conservation, we strive to meet and exceed Seattle’s energy codes. We have an in-house department that looks at our current buildings energy use to monitor and look for ways to improve our systems. Our new development 400 Westlake, currently under construction, will be the greenest building of its size in the world. In the 1980s Martin Selig pioneered what became the ride free zone in downtown Seattle where the metro lines that operate on 3rd Avenue were free to all riders between Yesler and Dexter.
While we look at post-COVID office life, commuting is top of mind for many of our tenants. These light rail expansion stations will provide a huge improvement in commute times for many people living north and on the east side of the Puget Sound region, offering another public transit option outside of the bus and allowing you the luxury of skipping traffic altogether.
Making public transportation available to everyone has always been something MSRE has worked to provide and that mission continues with the addition of these new light rail stations.
