New Art Installation “Estrellita” at 3101 Western Avenue

Martin Selig has been dedicated to growing his art collection for the past four decades. From the whimsical Red Popsicle statue in the heart of Belltown, to Gedalia Ben-Zvi’s historic Fusion sculpture on the edge of Elliott Bay, the city is filled with not only Martin’s contributions to the skyline, but also with his public art installations.

One of the latest additions to Martin’s collection is Estrellita by Emilio Greco. This piece has recently been installed for public viewing, welcoming tenants and guests to 3101 Western Avenue. Acquired from South Kensington, London, in 2017, the statue is an elegant addition to the garden landscape at this property’s entryway.

Estrellita is a life-sized sculpture of a woman with long limbs and self-assured poise. Her posture gives onlookers a sense of graceful strength. Cast in bronze with brown patina, this sculpture offers a refined, ethereal presence. The sleek mannerist art piece is visible to all passersby on Western Avenue.

Italian artist Emilio Greco created Estrellita in the early 1970s. This piece, like many of Greco’s works, showcases ladies with long limbs and balanced forms. The lifelong sculptor started studying this art form at age 13 and paused only to fight for his country in World War II. His works are displayed at churches and art galleries around the world including the Cathedral at Orvieto and a monument to Pope John XXII in Saint Peter’s.
